Participation in Dynamic Auctions

چکیده

We study participation decisions and bidding behaviour in Michigan Department of Transportation procurement auctions. Patterns in the bidding data suggest that bidders’ participation behaviour has a forward looking component and could generate asymmetries between bidders. To fully understand the extent of these effects on auction outcomes, we construct and estimate a dynamic asymmetric auction model with endogenous participation. We develop an estimation approach which builds on Guerre et al. (2000) and recently developed dynamic discrete game estimators. We then quantify the level of inefficiencies under the current auction rules and then consider how alternative auction rules affect efficiency. We also analyse the effect of ignoring dynamics in this market by estimating a static version of our model. This approach results in misleading conclusions concerning auction efficiency.

A Study of Participation in Dynamic Auctions

We study participation and bidding decisions in repeated Michigan Department of Transportation procurement auctions. The key finding is that dynamic linkages in auctions exist in the participation stage of the game. As a result, with forward looking bidders we find that the sequencing of contracts by size can be used to influence competition within an auction. To fully understand the extent of ...

An Optimization Framework for Combining the Petroleum Replenishment Problem with the Optimal Bidding in Combinatorial Auctions

We address in this paper a periodic petroleum station replenishment problem (PPSRP) that aims to plan the delivery of petroleum products to a set of geographically dispatched stations. It is assumed that each station is characterized by its weekly demand and by its frequency of service. The main objective of the delivery process is to minimize the total travelled distance by the vailable trucks...

Searching the eBay Marketplace

This paper proposes a framework for demand estimation with data on bids, bidders’ identities, and auction covariates from a sequence of eBay auctions. First the aspect of bidding in a marketplace environment is developed. Form the simple dynamic auction model with IPV and private bidding costs it follows that if participation is optimal the bidder searches with a ”reservation bid” for low-price...

Identifying Demand in EBay Auctions

This paper presents assumptions and identification results for eBay type auctions. These results are for private value auctions covering three major issues; censoring bias, auction heterogeneity and dynamic bidding. The first section of the paper presents two identification results for second price open call auctions with private values and unobserved participation (eBay type auctions). The sec...
